Did you intend the chromatic aberration or were just experiment with it? I've got a thing against replicating the flaws of optical devices on software that can produce a flawless image haha. At least there's no lens flare. Lovely job on the reptile skin though, may use it as reference for my own work.

Loved the lighting on the last one, love the composition in this, and the colour scheme. I think you're quite lucky that it matches up with the colours of the newgrounds page atm! Haha

Wonderful lighting on this piece, and the soft focus effect you gave to the rim light side and the back of the head. I think I'll start following you on tumblr! ^^

Melee black mage?!

I love this, everything you've said in the description can be seen quite plainly on the illustration. I'm trying to find something to critique, but can't haha. Guess this will just have to go into my favourites for now :)

Favourited

This is the first bit of art I've added to my faves. Not so much because it's samus, but for more technical considerations. Samus' skin doesn't look like it's green, but more that it's being seen through the green visor, translucent objects always screw me over colour-wise haha.
One thing however, you've drawn from the source really well, but I'd like to see it expanded. More of a context to the picture. What's she looking at? Where is she? What kind of suit does she have on?
I'm thinking some metroids in the background, and the reflection of motherbrain in her visor as she sets her guns to "MISSILEMOTHERFUCKER"

Deadartcore responds:

Thanks man!

Purples?!

You're right, that's an awful lot of purples! Ahh I've been seeing quite a few of these screen studies lately. I'm guessing there's a lot to be learned from studio lighting / colour balancing techniques. Textured skin, good stuff!

theWesley responds:

ya movie studies have a lot that they can help with, the part i like about them is that you can sorta pick what you want out of the study and pick the shot to cater to the need. but the only downfall is they are really really fun to do, so sometimes i slack off on my imagination works because i want to do another screen shot :P

Excellent texturing

Reminds me of Da Vinci's "vitruvian man" with that circle background and the pose.
Great work on the metal, since not only can you tell it's metal you've given the flat areas enough texture and detail so that it does't look boring.
Anatomy's spot on but then again you seem to be pretty experienced with that anyway. Now for some legs! I'm thinking he can fly, add a dystopic future battlefield with some interesting effects and backlighting and you'll have yourself a frontpaged piece of art easily.

Gunzet responds:

Ah thanks a lot. I may just draw this character again some time in the future. But for right now it was just practice, hopefully I'll get a frontpage piece at one point xD

Nice job

Ignore the guy below, tracing is a great way to quickly lay down the framework of a painting, leaving you to concentrate on other areas. Even professionals do it for smaller projects.
I'd definitely recommend working more into this though, must be at least 2500x1500 and there's a hell a lot of room for you to work in finer details and define the eyes more. A lot of people have said this already but it's true, I usually finish a picture then on a new layer add more texture.
He's a gritty character, and the mood you've set with the shadowed eyes adds to that mood. Download yourself some textured brushes and go to town making that face even grittier!

Butbutbutbut details are haaard D:
I do plan on doing some more detail-y studies, though--one day maybe I'll be able to pull off something like this just from scratch. One day...*sigh*
RIGHT! God, I keep forgetting that there are downloadable brushes online. I guess I can't complain about having such a limited set anymore :c
Thanks, hon! Fufufufu, love your gallery.

Hawww yeah

You nailed the lighting on the face, and good job on the arm's forehortening. I always have problems with that.
Keep it up!

CRAB BATTLE!

Sweet pic. Love the backlighting, not enough of that on NG. One suggestion though, have a simple bg silhouette, the pic needs a little more indication of where the light's coming from.
